Living in Florida means staying prepared for storm season. Whether you have a screen enclosure, patio, or pool cage, this checklist helps you protect your home before a hurricane hits. Use it to reduce stress and avoid costly damage — even when a storm isn’t on the radar yet.

  1. Make sure exterior lighting is functional for use post-storm

  2. Remove or tie down patio furniture and loose items

  3. Clean gutters and drainage areas

  4. Trim trees and branches near your house and enclosure

  5. Take photos of your property for insurance documentation

  6. Review your homeowner’s insurance and coverage

  7. If you have a generator, make sure it is working properly

  8. Store important documents and valuables in waterproof containers

  9. Prep a first aid kit

  10. Know your evacuation zone and routes

  11. Remove shade cloths or panels that can act like sails in high winds

  12. Set aside basic tools: wrench, screwdrivers, utility knife, duct tape

  13. Inspect any French drains or trench drains for blockages
